Could tongue tie be the cause of baby's hourly wakings at night?

Hi,

LO at 7 months generally seems happy during the day. At night, he wakes up every hour, and regularly has gas in his tummy when he awakes.

He does has CMPA and cows milk has been completely eliminated from his diet but hasn't made a different. He does have a slight posterior tongue tie which has reattached. Could this be causing his night awakings?

I must also add that we are trying to wean him and he isn't really keen on eating solids Hmm

At the same age my ds was just the same. Waking very frequently with tummy ache, needing feeding or cuddling to get to sleep. He had a posterior tongue tie that was snipped at 10 weeks old and also has a cmpa.

He is now 18 mths old and things have gradually improved. He wakes once/twice a night and although he sometimes has a tummy ache in the night, a dose of gripe water usually sorts it out.

I remember that age well, it's very hard but it will get better. My ds is gradually improving with his dairy allergy. Co sleeping is the only thing that saved me!

Does he eat soya? Up to 40% if babies allergic to cmp are also allergic/intolerant to soya.

Could be that upsetting his tummy?

Are you bf? I think my ds's tummy aches could be due to taking in too much air (blasted tongue/lip tie) when feeding

IndigoTea · 21/01/2014 19:27

Yes I'm bfing.

He isn't having any soya, though paedetrician did recommend soya milk, but I'm reluctant to use it.

Yes - do you wind after each feed? That was the only way I had any chance of dd sleeping for more than 45 mins. She had a posterior tongue tie which reattached.

That and putting her on her tummy helped.

melonribena · 21/01/2014 21:38

I would try soya. My ds isn't allergic and it opens up a massive amount if additional food choices!

I am interested in this too, my 10 month old is a terrible sleeper and has a tongue tie and a lip tie. We have just been referred to have them cut. I really hope it improves his sleep!

IndigoTea · 23/01/2014 16:04

Hamnvik, how's your LO doing with solids?

I ask because mine hasn't really taken to it, though the lip tie was cut and hasn't grown back.

When's your appointment.? Mine isn't until next month.

Have tonsils and adenoids checked.

But frequent waking can be normal. Kellymom website has good info on night waking.

Hamnvik · 24/01/2014 17:27

He doesn't eat much and seems to get wind while eating as well. We are still waiting to hear about an appointment, he already sees a paediatrician for reflux and cmpi though.
I did wonder about adenoids, might ask next time.

DS1 was a hideous sleeper. His ties and high palate went undiagnosed until he was about 6yo. Looking back, I also realise there was also sleep apnoea in the mix too.

Ties definitely can affect sleeping, yes. But revision might not magically make them sleep better.

IndigoTea · 26/01/2014 00:02

Hammvik, all the best! Do keep us updated on how it goes, and ill update you too once it is revised. I hope it will make a difference but tbh I am not expecting it to.
