Hi, I'm looking for a bit of advice and reassurance. My nearly 8 month old was sitting on the floor on a blanket. She's still a bit wobbly and the second i turned to grab a pillow to put behind her she fell side wards and smacked her on the floor . I'm devastated! The bang on the hard wooden floor was just awful! I think I'm probably more traumatised! She cried for about a minute then stopped. She does seem fine but I'm just so worried. Could this have caused any internal damage?
Thanks for any advice

I think she is probably fine don't worry - we've all been there. I think it would be very, very unlikely to do any major damage falling from sitting. I think falling from height and back of the head is when you worry. If she is fully responsive and now being sick or getting drowsy it is fine. I am not a doctor though so keep an eye on her but as far as I know (3 dc and many bumps over the years) drowsiness or being sick is when you need to worry. Or at least get it checked out.

not being sick not now being sick!

Did she cry pretty much immediately?

They say so long as they seem themselves, happy to play, not listless etc, they should be fine. What does the bump look like? How big is it?

What does your gut instinct say?

Baby DD has banged her head that many times I've lost count! Doesn't get any easier, but you do get to be a little more rational about them with each one!

Obviously if she well and truly slammed herself, straight to a+e no question.

Google what the signs of concussion are and keep a close eye on her.

My DS1 race-crawled off the bed and fell head-first onto a hard wooden floor when he was 6/7 months. I called 999 and was beside myself. He was absolutely fine.

Take to gp for check over in case.

Thanks for all the replys. I was so paranoid I took her to the health visitor as there was a clinic on. She said she seemed fine and couldn't see any mark on her head. She did go for a sleep but since wakening up she is happy and playing with her toys. The health visitor said as long as she didn't seem any different the she should be ok. Think it was just more of a shock for me and the thud will stay with me for a while.
Thanks guys for the help!

Compression rather than concussion is what you need to look out for. Keep checking
