Help With DD 7?

Wondering if anyone can give me any helpful tips with regard to DD.

Will try not to drip feed.

Just before Chrristmas she became really emotional, very tearful when asked to do the simplist of things...ie...brush your hair, pop upstairs and put some sock on....We put it down to being tired at the end of term and maybe just being so excited about Christmas.

Christmas holidays she was still quite emotional.

Last week when she went back to school she has been sobbing in the evenings and really upset at bedtime. She has said things like; 'why is nobody else like me?' - 'I just want to cry all the time' and most worryingly 'I don't feel like myself anymore, I want to be alone'.

She is quite grown up for her age, had to start using deodorant last summer. We are seeing the Dr on Friday as I have also noticed that she seems to have a really bad temper every 3/4 weeks, it seems like pmt rages which seems absurd at her age.

There have been a few changes this month, new school teacher (who she loves), new Brownie group and starting after school club.

Anyone got any suggestions of what could be going on? how to help her? what to do? Is it possibly down to all the changes. We have said it seems like something dreadful had happened to her but as far as we are aware nothing, she doesn't spend much time away from us, and is only ever with very close friends.

I spoke to her school deputy head last week who is going to keep an eye out for anything and make her teachers aware.

Any suggestions welcome.

Sorry this is so long....

Google "precocious puberty", your doc will probably consider that. Also be aware that children can suffer from depression. However this is probably just a phase she is going through, related to changes which causes stress even if she outwardly perceives them as positive. Give her time to settle down, and see what the gp says.

Lasting light, thanks so much for your reply, I had wondered about precocious puberty, I will mention that to the doctor.

DH also said it sounds like depression, it's just horrible to think of your child having it at such a young age.

I hope you are right and its just a phase.

Thank you again for your response.

Sounds similar to my DD aged 7, and she's been diagnosed by an Endocrinologist with Adrenarche, not full puberty but a few early changes. Behaviour problems apparently occur quite commonly in girls with this, but doctors don't seem to know why and it's not something that needs treatment.

Fish oil supplements seem to help her have fewer mood swings, but maybe things would just have settled down anyway without them.

Best wishes to you and hope your DD feels happier soon.

beresh many thanks for your response also, very helpful. I am making quite a lot of notes to talk to the Dr about.

If you don't mind me asking - was it your GP who refferred your DD to the Endocrinologist ?

Thanks for the fish oil tip....off to Holland and Barratt at lunchtime...

Thanks again.

GP did do referral direct to a Paediatric Endocrinologist, we're not in the uk though, so don't know if things work differently with you.
