6 year old constantly going to the toilet

6.7 year old dd is OBSESSED with going to the toilet.

She will sometimes go 4 or 5 times an hour. I've taken her to the GP on 3 separate occasions to test for water infections etc., but she's fine. It's psychological as opposed to a bladder/medical issue IMHO. She will squeeze a tiny drop out each time rather than "saving it" for a proper wee iyswim?

If we're out or she's doing something to distract her, she'll go a normal amount of times. If she's a bit bored or has time to think about it, she's a nightmare. At bedtime for example, she'll go before the bath, after the bath, after she's got pj's on, after her story and then once lights are out, she'll go another 3 or 4 times in a half hour period Confused

The teachers have mentioned it at school as well, albeit it's not to the same extent.

Has anyone dealt with similar issues or have any advice/thoughts?

What does she actually do? Is she sneaking a book or toy in there or rifling through cupboards?

Our second floor bathrooms was a lovely haven for me when I was little. Big family, lots of pets and bustle, but the bathroom was huge, warm, bright and quiet. I am sure I spent a lot of time there playing or gazing at myself in the mirror.

In fact, when its all a bit mad here I taken myself off to the loo to lock the door and get away from everyone for a few minutes!

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/01/2014 14:11

Ha! I do the same (given half a chance Smile). No. She's not in there long. Just goes, sits on the loo, squeezes a tiny drop out and comes out.

It's almost like she's petrified of wetting herself, so wants to make sure she's totally empty. I just don't understand it though. She's been dry since 2 ish. Never had any issues Hmm

Has she had any little accidents or has anyone else at school? Maybe its just that simple - she doesn't want to wet her pants.

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/01/2014 15:52

No. She hasn't. She toilet trained at about 2.5 and was completely dry within a couple of days and hasn't had any issues since. She hasn't mentioned anyone at school (and I haven't heard anything).

I've tried talking to her but she's really over sensitive and just gets upset Confused

Thanks for the responses

if it's any comfort, mine does the same. Similar age. Her teacher has mentioned it to me, and all I could say is that she does it at home (night time mostly) too, so it's not deliberate b*ggering about in lessons. I think it's also a case of being in a rush and not sitting to let it all out in one hit.

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/01/2014 16:15

It is a comfort! Thank you Smile

It's almost an attention seeking thing I think. Hopefully, it's just a phase

I had the same thing with my Dd (otty trained siilar age to yours) - i used the Usborne book www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0746070055/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0746023006&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1TZCB0ZPM4Z3TY14XC3C See How your body works, which shows how food/water goes into our body; the bladder etc. I spoke to her about letting her bladder fill up, empty it etc.

However, I also ignored it (and thankfully it went away, as i was wondering if she had a uti - although a quick test at the doctors proved that she didnt)

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/01/2014 16:34

That looks ideal. Thank you! Will order it.

Yes. My initial thoughts were a uti. She's been like this for a year or so now and I've had her tested 3 times!
