Any tips to stop an 11 month old grinding her teeth?

DDs upper front teeth came in over Christmas and since then, she has been grinding them against her bottom teeth almost constantly. I have tried saying "no no", picking her up and distracting her but she grinds away regardless. So far giving her cheek a gentle stroke while shaking my head and saying "no" will get her to pause but then she starts again straight away. Is this a common phase she is likely to grow out of? Or are there any other suggestions for how I can get her to stop? Thanks in advance.

My Dd goes through phases of teeth grinding. Lasts a couple of weeks than disappears until the next ones come along. It drives me totally crazy and it's the only thing I've ever seen DH lose his temper over! He can't bear it! My Dd takes a dummy, so we give her that if "no" doesn't work. She's 13 months

Hth! It's horrible!

Reassured to hear is likely a phase. DS never did it (thankfully) and it really sets my teeth on edge Confused

All of my (3) DCs did this - it sounds absolutely dreadful and I was concerned that they were damaging their brand-new teeth as it sounds so harsh. However, a dentist friend said to leave it be, and they'd stop by themselves and indeed they did! My friend suggested that perhaps they're just getting used to these strange new things in their mouths and enjoying the noise it makes (perverse little buggers because, like you, it absolutely set my own teeth on edge!).

Please tell me it was a short phase? Wink

Can't remember how long it lasted - I've tried to block it out of my memory Grin

Both my DSs have done this, and yes, it was a short phase!

My DS 10.5 mo, did this. I found it was a short phase, he seemed to do it as he liked my dh's reaction (sheer horror!!). I found not acknowledging it at all helped and he soon stopped.

It's a horrible sound, like nails on a blackboard!
