Teething tears at bedtime?? Advice needed.

I'm a 1st time Mum and dd is just over 6 months. No teeth yet but dribbling a lot, pushing down on her lower gums with fingers and biting toys. The last 2 nights whilst going to bed she has been crying really hard, she'll almost be dropping off then she'll spit out her dummy and just cry. She has never done this previously and I don't know if this could be a sign she's teething or something else I need to get checked out.

During the day she's started crying whenever I leave the room so don't know if this could be related to the bedtime prob. I have stayed with her the last 2 nights but this hasn't really made a difference to the crying. Any advice much appreciated.

Sounds like teething to me, we are going through the same thing with ds (10months) 1st tooth is through now but a having a night from hell with him tonight so i imagine no 2 is on its way.

Thanks for replying, I had a feeling it was her teeth. I suppose it's just a waiting game until they come through.

Unfortunatly yes all I can suggest is that if it really seems to be distressing/paining her try giving her a dose of calpol and then about 2 hrs later if no improvement give a small dose of ibuprofen. Bonjela works well for us but many on hee advocate ashtons teething powders. Another good one is to use sugar free freeze pops as they help by numbing the gums and also get fluids into baby iyswim. DD used to stop eating as well and DS seems to be following that pattern. When he is in a lot of pain with his gums he stops eating but guzzles more milk than usual then once the tooth is through eats like there is no tomorrow.

Joggers I second mummyhill's post of paracetamol and then ibuprofen 2 hrs later. I think the crying when you leave the room is a part of development that comes abpout 6-8 months, so don't worry, just talk to dd as you leave, and come back repeatedly and soon, and she'll soon understand that you come back. Don't be tempted to carry her everywhere, she'll be fine in a week or so, esp. if the teething pain goes away. My ds took badly to his 4th tooth and I thought he'd lost the ability to fall asleep alone- but it only lasted a few days and turned out to be all down to the teeth. Relax and go with what makes her happy for now as she'll be back to her normal self soon!

Thanks bramblina, I appreciate the advice. Her gums look really grey/white today so hopefully a tooth will cut through soon.

Joggers, here's a link to a thread I started a while back as I had panic thoughts about a similar situation, I hope the reassurance I was given can help you too...?
