Establishing a sleep pattern

My 8.5 week old DD has a pretty good feed routine but her day time naps/sleeps are all over the place.

I would like to have a bit more structure to them as think it would be much better for her if she knew what was coming next.

At the moment I just take her cues and when I see her yawn 2/3 times I try to settle her and then put her in her Moses basket or on giant cushion in the lounge.

Sometimes she will fall asleep (mostly for a nap as opposed to a sleep) but other times she's maybe overtired and can't get off.

How can I introduce sleep times throughout the day? It's not as if I can expect her to sleep if she's not tired???!

And whilst I want her to be used to sleeping in different places, she doesn't always settle well in her Moses basket and I'm wondering if I should just have one bed/room that I use for sleeps/naps??

Have you read Baby calming by Caroline Deacon. Rather than having a set of instruction for you to follow, it gives you the confidence to find a routine that suits both you and your baby. The trouble with prescriptive books like Contented Little Baby and Baby Whisperer is that they aren't research based and if baby doesn't like the routine set down you can be left with feelings of disappointment or worse.

For me dc2 fell into her own routine as we had to get up at the same time everyday to get dc1 to preschool. She then gel asleep on the walk home.
