What she is the earliest you can start weaning a baby and what is best to feed them?

No earlier than 17 weeks. Usually between 17-24 weeks with obvious odd exceptions either side.

What you feed them depends on the baby's age. Whether there are any allergies, or the baby was prem, and the baby's needs really.

Baby rice is a usual start point but so is mash potato. Or with older babies straight to finger foods. Steamed carrot stick, broccoli or whatever they grab really

I think it's still a given though that you avoid gluten and egg and maybe dairy before six months. Nut butters/ground nuts are ok from 6 months provided no history if allergies or eczema or asthma in immediate family.

advice here given by health care prof is to wait until six months. I think because by then a baby's gut is more mature and able to process food other than milk. By six months then can eat pretty much whatever too so that keeps it fun, and they have the ability to sit up and grasp. enjoy the messy fun Smile

Chelsea have a read of the mumsnet weaning info too. That and the nhs guidelines, posted previously, are very both very good.

Is there a particular problem we can help you with?
