DD has started hitting herself

She is 21 months and a very happy, content toddler. However she has started to hit herself when she becomes frustrated or if I tell her off.

For example earlier she threw a plate of apple slices on the floor. All I said to her was no, thats naughty and started to pick them up. I didnt raise my voice or anything just spoke a bit sternly.

She then hits herself, quite hard in the face. I have tried to tell her no again, pick her up and cuddle her and even ignoring her doing it but nothing is stopping her from doing it.

The only way I can get her to stop is distracting her with something else but im worried about why she is doing it in the first place.

She is now progressing to trying to pull her hair and eyelashes out and its pretty distressing to watch tbh.

Has anyone elses dc done this? Any advice on getting her to stop doing it? Many thanks.

Hi, I don't have any experience of this exactly, but I do have experience of my own dd and also a couple of friends' children hitting their heads against the floor when cross. Sounds pretty similar. It's nasty to watch but I think it is normal or normal ish. I don't have any suggestions for you on stopping it I'm afraid, if you find any please let me know! When dd is hitting her head on the floor I tend to pick her up but I guess that might not help if she is hitting herself.
