11 month old puts everything in mouth constantly

I know this is normal for a baby this age but she does it even more than most, every bit of fluff and dirt off the carpet, things her 2 year old sister gives her and tonight DH fished a sharp piece of plastic out of her mouth - DD1 must have broken it off one of her toys. I didn't even notice. V scary. Her mouth was bleeding a bit but she is OK thank God and asleep now.

I hoover twice a day and watch her as much as I can. DD1 never did this. When will it stop???

Not for a while - just try not to have harmful stuff around. They all do it.

I'm afraid it can go on up to the age of 3 (hence 0-3 year old toy restrictions) however most don't; a lot stop before they are 2, and some don't even bother in the first place.

All apart from my DD1. She never did and is very particular about what she eats even now. So am not used to it with DD2. Thanks you are right of course.....

My friend had to have an operation as a baby as she swallowed her Mums hairslide. Am just worried she will swallow something like that and I won't notice. You are right it is normal and I will just have to be more careful.

I'm in the same boat. My first DC showed no interest in shoving everything in the mouth (apart from food of course!) but my second is completely the opposite.

This is going to be a tricky few years with safeguarding around toys!

Thanks everyone. I thought people might think I was a bit silly as nearly all babies put things in their mouths. But DD2 does seem to be doing it all the time, will have to be extra careful! My Mum thinks she should understand now if I tell her off for doing it....I think 11 months a bit young to understand that.

Have to go as just heard DH say to DD1, 'don't let DD2 put that in her mouth..!!' lol

Oh it was part of a peppa pig sticker. She has eaten it I think.

My dd is 1 this week, she's still shoving anything in her mouth but her understanding is good enough, if I say take that out of your mouth please, she will, and when I hold out my hand and say can I have it please, she will walk over and give it to me.. It's a pain, but maybe start trying to help your dd/Ds (can't remember and I'm on my phone!!) understand boundaries? Although it's bloody hard and even harder if they go to nursery as there will be different commands etc!

I think your advice is good Popuptents. I need to start telling her not to do it as she is getting ld enough to understand.

My only advice is always use the same word, so if she's pulling my hair I say 'no' instead of stop, because she knows what no means!!
