7yr old and 4 yr old bed at same time?

Hi. I have a 7yr old and a 4 yr old who share a room and they both tend to go to bed around 7.30 after having a book etc. my 7 yr old is still wakened (9.15) and is saying he never gets to sleep. I'm wondering if this is a bit too early or if I should try giving him a book to read in his bed. It's more difficult because they share a room and my 4 yr old likes a night light on. Any advice?

Mine (8,6 and 3) all go down the same time as yours but have a book on CD which the youngest doesn't last 2 minutes listening too but the others do for 30mins or so. They certainly need the 11-12 hours sleep they get, I never understand how people fit things like brownies in that finish at their bedtime!

My two are 9 and 6 and go to bed together. They go to bed at 7.30 on most week nights (later a couple of nights because of activities) The 9 year old will sometimes be awake for a while but not very late as he needs a lot of sleep.

I've given him a torch so he can read in bed once the 6 year old is asleep but generally he doesn't bother.

Why is your older child awake? Is he not tired? Is the nightlight bothering him?

Mine are 3.5 years and 6.5 years and they also share a room. They go to bed at the same time, between 8 and 8.30. The 3.5 year old will always be up first, has around 10 hours sleep and the 6.5 year old who has always be the better sleeper, will sleep between 10-12 hours. He falls asleep later but normally within 30 minutes, if either of them regularly took longer to nod off I would probably make bedtime a bit later. They listen to story CDs, taking turns o choose each night. The older one has a night light, younger one used to sleeping in the dark. We have a high chest of drawers between their beds o they can't see each other and this means it is not so bright for the younger one. Can you arrange their room or reposition the light so it disturbs the older one less?
