Potty....

DD is 21 months & we bought her a little chair type potty ages ago & left it in the corner of the bathroom. she sits on it now and again & we've told her what its for. we've always been very laid back about it & almost ignored it as I think she's still very young. however, she's told us a few times, generally just before bathtime that she wants a poo poo so she's obviously aware of the feeling. she asked for the pot the other night but ended up pooing on the floor next to it with only the last little bit going in once I'd sat her on. tonight she said poo poo & hubby took her upstairs, stripped her off & she sat on the pot & did a wee. she was delighted & very proud if herself afterwards. so, what now? I'm inclined to just carry on as we are really & let her lead the way & just ask her if she would like to use the pot maybe a couple of times a day....? DC2 due in May, is it a possibility after all that I may only have to deal with newborn nappies!?!

It is earlier than my DC were potty trained by quite a bit but it seems like she's ready/getting ready for it, as she can recognise the need to go to the toilet. I would continue as you are, any pressure might make her stop and let her kind of work her way up to it. Congratulate her every time she does it.

Go for it! My DD was the same and started potty training at 21 months. She just knew when she needed to go and would take herself off to use the potty.

I was surprised and not ready for her to shows signs at that age but was worried that I might "miss the boat" if I ignored her so we went with it and by 2 she was dry day and night!

Definitely go with what she wants Smile

My DD was reliable by 21 months, so she's not too young. My DS, on the other hand, was just over 3! It really is best to follow their lead Smile

My dd was the same at that age. So I left her without a nappy for an hour or so in the evening. She would go and sit on the potty if she needed a wee so after a week of that I tried her without a nappy all day and she took to it brilliantly. Poos took a little longer to master but I was very surprised at her being ready so young.

Let her take the lead and see what you think in a few weeks, there's no harm in trying and you can always go back to a nappy if it's not successful.
