Toddler nail biting.

Ds has just turned 2 and seems to have decided to mark the occasion by biting his nails.
Reading online it seems a pretty common habit among this age group. Anyone else had experience of it? The general advice seems to be to just ignore and hope it stops. What are your thoughts on this?

Sorry I don't have any advice just a nearly three year old who also has this habbit has done for possibly 6 months now. Bumping for you.

DD did this for a few months over the summer while we were in temporary accommodation. she was 2.

She stopped as soon as we moved into our new house and everything came out of storage and she knew we were staying. :)

I don't think he's stressed at least I hope not. I wonder if he's copying his dad who bites his nails.

Ds does this and has for 2 years :( (he's 4 now).

It started when we tried to get him to settle into bed by himself by leaving him awake. Also this was when dd was born. I think he got anxious and now he still does it.

I bit my nails as a kid - was quite anxious and still am. I did stop of my own accord at around 8?

Ds doesn't seem anxious at all in fact I would generally say the opposite.
He tends to do it when distracted by something else like a programme on the tv.

My DS did that too- almost without realising! We got him a squeezy ball type thing (like a stress ball) which we tied to his wrist and he'd squeeze that instead of biting his nails- again, he didn't realise that he was doing it as such, he just did it.

Ds still does it even though he's not anxious about things or at least doesn't seem to be. I think he needs to keep his hands busy - funnily enough he likes fiddling so Lego works well.

I however had quite a turbulent childhood so maybe I'm projecting onto ds - our home is very stable!
