7 month old doesn't like gran

DD is 7 (nearly 8) months old and is beginning to definitely prefer DH and me to other people. I have an older DS and he was always happy to be with whoever so I've not dealt with this before.

DD has always been a bit happier with us but now turning into quite an issue with MIL. She is fine with my mum and her grandad (DH's dad) but cries most of the time she is with gran. otherwise a very happy baby.

problem is we are spending Christmas with they driving up tomorrow and I don't know what to do. It seems unfair to leave DD when she is unhappy and I know she'll be fine with me but it also seems a bit mean to take her away from MIL who loves her to bits.

any ideas?

No ideas exactly how to improve it, but we had this with DS and one DGP at that age too.

After a while, and having felt really awkward about DS seeming to hate them!, we worked out what it was. This DGP wore a coat and a hat and always entered the lounge with them on, and DS would cry and not want to go near them even after removing them. When they remove them before entering DS is absolutely fine.

So it could be something as simple as an accessory or perfume or make up, something like that. Might not be, but every little helps!

Either way, it should pass Smile

PS if you can't solve it prior, teething is always a good cover story Grin

our DD went through a stage like this, she was fine but then all of a sudden changed to not liking other people, this only lasted for about 4 weeks though for some reason and she has went back to being fine. it may help that you are spending a little more time with your MIL for your DD to get used to her a little more?

my advice is rather than chucking then straight at each other let baby observe mil from a distance to start with and decide herself when to come over. Is she crawling? If so she can use own devices if not you will have to guage.

Dd1 could be very funny with people she didn't see very often at that age but it was nothing personal! She needed to socialise on her terms ifyswim?

I agree with giving her a bit of time to get accustomed to being near them without them being right in her face. When my DM visits I pick her up from the station and she always gets in the back of the car with DS. He went through a phase, at about this age, of going into total meltdown as soon as she got in. He smiles when she gets in now (13m) but still got a bit upset when she arrived at our house shortly before bedtime on Xmas Eve, presumably because he was tired and looking forward to starting the bedtime routine in the normal way.
