Has anyone ever got professional help for behaviour?

Dd is just turned 9 and we have tried everything . She is just so bold and defiant. She is great at school thankfully but obviously she can do it.

She talks back, sulks, winds up her siblings, etc etc
she won't go to bed when told, just got her to bed at midnight, very attention seeking, won't change into pyjamas sleeps in clothes etc We are at end of our tethers. Dh is great and very involved but I am at the stage where I am afraid I will hurt her if we don't get help.

If I go to GP do I take her and discuss all in front of her?

Thanks.

We have for dd2 when she was younger. I talked to the HV/nursery teachers when she was not there.

I'd approach the school in your situation.

Yes. I hired a behavioural consultant. School were no good as they blamed me.

I had counselling twice when I was younger for behaviour. Once when I was 4 and again when I was 10.

The first time was because I was playing up due to my parents separating. The second time was because I went off the rails after my mum died :(

I don't really remember the counselling (psychiatrists) as such, but, I have seen all the paperwork/reports and it seemed to have helped me vent and get it all off my chest and become calmer.

Watching with interest as I have similar problems with 8 year old DD. She just went to sleep at 2am. I'm lying here sobbing :-(

We went to the GP about DD who was then 7/8, they referred to CAMH who sent someone out to talk to us, not dd, who told us DD had an anxiety problem, and put us on a prenting course. Complete waste of time, and school were informed too. I felt we had let DD down, as everone knew but no-one helped. We still have problems with her, and I suspect she has some type of ASD, but no-one listens, and no one will help.

Singarainbow - ask your GP for a referral to a paediatrician. They'll assess for ASD
