Lactose intolerance?

Hello. Not sure I'm on the right the thread here, advice welcome! My ds1 will be 2 in February and over the last few months I have been thinking he might be lactose intolerant, I put it out my mind, but after watching a video of him in the bath I couldn't ignore his bloated tummy. After googling I'm almost sure. I suppose what I want to know is will my HV listen to me, after I mention the words google, will she just think I'm being google doctor???

Has anyone got lactose intolreant toddlers? What are their symptoms? xx

I'm lactose intolerant but it doesn't cause me a bloated stomach, I get stomach pains, wind and needing the toilet very suddenly! (sorry, tmi)

What other symptoms does he have apart from the bloating?

Gemz1806 · 18/12/2013 23:16

He *trumps a lot, I first started to think about because it was always after a good drink of milk, he has really loose stools also, about 4-5 a day, it's never a "formed" poo, more all over the place.

If it causes no pain then I don't suppose i need to worry?

He was 5 wks early and after my paranoid google search I seen it was more common in prem babies. But normally diagnosed in older kids.

Am i worrying about nothing? X

pretty sure my son was lactose intolerant, the main symptom was incredibly smelly runny shit now you ask.

Have been wondering the same about my DS (2.4). He always has really really loud wind, worst soon after having a drink of milk. It looks like he's got a pot belly that increases in size over the day and his dirty nappies are usually very soft, almost runny, although I have often put that down to teething and/or the amount of fruit he eats. He hasn't complained of any pain though so I've not taken him to the GP about it for the same reason as you ..

Have you tried cutting out the milk to see if it makes a difference?

We changed DD2 to low lactose milk as she was a Pukey baby and my boss suggested it to me. The change in her was immediate.

Now she gets tummy ache and diarrhoea from eating cheese.

goats milk was good

DD now 5 is lactose intolerant (amongst other things) and does/did have a bloated tummy but was in pain with it.

She was on neocate (formula) milk from 8 months until she was 4 and she now tolerates lacto free milk which is bought in most supermarkets, you could always try this first?

DD was not prem btw either but was slow to gain weight and she is still slightly on the small side even now.

My DS (2.5) has had two bouts of secondary lactose intolerance after stomach bugs. The symptoms were exactly as you describe. We cut out lactose completely for three months (supermarkets have loads of fab replacement products) then slowly reintroduced it. He's built up his tolerance again.

I'm CMPI and have similar symptoms.
