Manchester area - single jabs instead of MMR?

Just that really. We've chosen to go down the single jabs route for DD who is 12 months old. DR's incredibly unhelpful and unwilling to even discuss this, just telling us we have to get the MMR.

Has anyone got single jabs in the Manchester/North West area and can recommend somewhere to take DD?

Did you mean to be quite so rude OP?

A simple google search has come up with this independent Family Heathcare company who could supply measles and mumps vaccines.

That's just searching on Manchester. As this is so important I'm sure that you'd be willing to widen your area to get more choice but I'll leave that search to you Xmas Smile.

Sorry, measles and rubella.

Not mumps (obviously)

redspottydress · 16/12/2013 20:19

No rush for the rubella, she will be better covered for pregnancy if you leave it until later.

A note of caution in terms of Google searches that come up with companies who say they can supply Mumps vaccines - they can't. However, as they make money out of people who want single jabs and are a bit credulous they often imply they can, so that people pay for the measles and rubella.

And the decision by the company not to make single mumps vaccines anymore was a financial one, nothing to do with the Government (although your faith in their control of market forces is sweet)

Yes, she'll be better protected in pregnancy if op's dd isn't vaccinated against rubella yet, but those women who are pregnant between now and then and who can't be vaccinated will be at more risk.

Haven't heard of anywhere in Manchester but if you contact your local BUPA / Spire type hospitals they should be able to help.

We had the single measles jab for DD in London, (pm if you want details) will do the rubella at some point further down the road - i had it at 11 which used to be the age the nhs did it.

Thanks Sim

Just to reiterate, I wasn't saying I wasn't happy to pay for single jabs..I am. I don't think the NHS should have to provide them free of charge.

Iwish I wasn't being rude Hmm I thought you were! I only posted because I would like a recommendation. The link you found was the only one I could find too, and I was wondering if anyone had any personal recommendations Smile but thank you too for having a look Smile

Doit Just older I guess! She was only a small baby at birth, so still pretty small for 12 months, and I just feel it's too much to overload her system with.
