2.5 Yr Old DD1 taking off her nappy, definitely not ready for potty traning - HELP!!

.... that about covers it really!! DD1 keeps taking off her nappy (reusables and disposables.) Not a problem during the day in this hot weather; but a real problem when she is in her cot for sleep. She does it before she goes to sleep and when she wakes up - usually resulting in her weeing and / or pooing all over her cot - bedding, slats, walls etc etc

She is not ready for potty training IMO, she has no concept of weeing or pooing - she runs around in the garden naked all afternoon and when she needs to go, she just goes - and doesn't even notice!! I always have a potty available, but she is really not interested ATM.

Any suggestions - am I alone??

Poor you WT - My DH is exactly the same and TBH I am not sure who is right. Perhaps they are a bit young for too harsh a treatment for pooing everywhere, but they should defintely be made to understand that taking nappy off is naughty!! It is a very thin dividing line - Do recommend putting nappy on backwards though - working for me so far. Hope the damage wasn't too extensive WT. Hope the mattress protectors make a difference FW - Let us know, won't you??

I agree CD that 'harsh' treatment is not the way to go but surely there has to be some consequence to her action?; she knows full well what she is doing (bright little button that she is). I think the answer (for a change) will be for mummy to deal with it; 'wearing' my stern, no-nonsense mask!
I've just remembered that DH sneekily went back upstairs last night just to check that she was ok.....it's an uphill struggle isn't it?

Bloomin' men - like having another child really, isn't it!!?

Thinking stern, no-nonsense face is the way to go definitely - HE can do the "cleaning up" next time (I hope there isn't one btw!!)

our 22 month old has been taking nappy off at night, and even once at nursey to the staffs horror. glad to see we are not alone. have already tried putting shorts over here sleep suit but they come off as well. have also be suggested to try pull ups but they have been wriggled out off too. will try the nappy on backwards but we are also going to try put her in her back zip fastening swim suit. if anything it should be used to getting wet if it doesnt work...!!

Further to my message last night about my daughter constantly taking her nappy off at night (in fact any chance she gets!) I have tried the following this evening - put her nappy on back to front as suggested by other mums on this discussion page, and also sewed her vest where the press studs are so she can't open it! I was able to pop her in the vest for bed feeding her through the neck entrance! I went up to check on her 5 minutes ago and she is fast asleep, nice and cool and nappy and vest is still in tact!!! It's early days but at least for now i can enjoy a slight relieve and sit down to my tea! Best wishes Kirstensmum

I have just found out that Waitrose (or Ocado if you do your shopping on the internet like me) are going to be stocking pullups made by Naty from the start of November 2006.

Naty make the Nature Boy/Girl biodegradable, no nasty chemical nappies that are currently stocked by Waitrose/Ocado.

I love these as they are ecological and better for baby, as no chemicals, but have been struggling with the ever increasing wriggles at nappy change time.

If you want to use these I would recommend contating your local waitrose/ocado to ask if they are going to stock them, as otherwise they might not be in your local store.

Ocado are pretty good, if a few people ask for a product they do their best to add it to their product list.
