The dummies are going TONIGHT! ...any tips?

3yo dd declared today that she doesn't need her dummies any more so we have left them outside for St Nicholas to take.

After some initial resistance at bedtime and requests for said dummies, she is now chatting quietly and happily in bed.

So far so good, but I'm a bit worried about the middle of the night. Her 12mo sister wakes frequently and with them sharing a room I'm not sure how the 3yo will cope without her dummy and if I'll be able to reason with her mid-slumber.

Anyone have any experience/tips/wisdom to share?

We weren't really prepared for this today but because it was initiated by her, we really feel we have to at least give it a shot.
I'm working tomorrow so really hoping that it's not too horrendous! Or am I deluded?

Can she have a favourite soft toy, or special blanket, to comfort her overnight? Or does she have those already? Our DS ended up with so many teddies etc in bed, there was barely room for him!

If it was instigated by her I think you've got your best chance.

I showed dd a great video on youtube of a little girl giving away her dummies to the dummy fairy and she decided to give them up, she never once asked for one after that, even the first night.

Good luck Thanks

Stick with it. Once they are gone, they are gone. DD chewed holes in her last two a couple of months ago and so, since they were broken and I wasn't buying any more, the script is, "sorry, soos are broken". Every time. She still asks for one when she falls over or has a really bad tantrum. In your house, St Nick has taken them. They are not coming back.

She has got lots of teddies in her bed and a taggie blanket similar to the one her baby sister uses to get to sleep. I've also told her she can look at books in bed too if that will help her to sleep.

She has done a couple of "I need the toilet" antics which we have never had before (she still wears pull-ups at night) but apart from that she still seems happy and is still chatting in bed.

I wonder how long it will take her to get to sleep though...

How did it go?

Wondering also how this is going as the Dummy Fairy is taking my son's dummy's tonight. He happily put them all in a bag and decided where he wanted to leave it and I'm sure the Dummy Fairy is going to leave him a special little torch and toy car (he really isn't into soft toys but is rather attached to a muslin which suits me fine) for him in the morning.
