How can I get him to self settle?

DS is a reasonableish sleeper I guess, wakes once, maybe twice in the night for a feed, used to wake approx 5am and come into our bed for a couple of hours. Recently this has started at 1,2am and he won't settle until he is in our bed.

We spend hours putting the dummy back in.
I will nit self settle and is rocked to sleep every night.

I don't wAnt to do cc or CIO.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

He's nearly 6 months.

Personally I found no cry sleep soln great for ideas that I wish I had known when dd was a newborn, but I only discovered it when she was about your dc's age and unfortunately the feed to sleep habit was just too ingrained by then. So we did gradual retreat a la Millpond and it worked a dream. Hth.

What is gradual retreat? Is it the Jo frost stylee thing where you move further out of the room?

Have just ordered no cry - worth a try!

Hello Fairy we have a No Cry thread in Sleep if you want some company. It is definitely good for helping you work out the issues and gently nudging things in the right direction. Depends really if you feel ready to tackle it full on a la Millpond or not.
I am not a good source of advice though...

Don't know what Jo frost suggests but sounds similar, can't go through it all but starts off rocking rather than feeding to sleep then progresses from there. Took us a month or so so it didn't feel full on at all, we went at her pace and crying was minimal. Now at 10 months, has had the usual teething etc but we haven't had any 'relapses' that you hear about after CIO or cc, so I'm really glad we went down this route.
