What is the story with the 9 / 10 month sleep regression?

I thought we had escaped.....but DD (just 10 months) is just starting to pull up and cruise, and when she is put down for naps / at bedtime she is pulling herself up on the sides of the cot (it is on the second lowest setting so we have to lower it down all the way today), and falling, usually bashing her head on the bars or her music thingy on the way down. Followed by lots of upset which requires cuddling and settling before she finally falls asleep, but waking a short time later. She is shattered tired as a result; this has been going on for a week or so now; and she also has a nasty dry cough too which isn't helping.

Can anyone tell me does it get worse - what are we in for? And does anyone have tips on helping with the falling in the cot (she is in a sleeping bag already) - I fear it is only a matter of time before she gives herself a black eye or something and I will have to face the MIL's wrath Smile!

I'm pretty sure the music toys are meant to be taken out of the cot once they can stand up, I would re read your instructions if I were you ;)

My dd is 19months and she kicks off if I put her down alone to nap so I lie on the floor until she falls asleep happily and she had two hour naps, I'm quite happy to do this at the mo as it keeps us all happy. I shine if you fell asleep upset you'd wake up pretty quickly aswell

Can't spell tonight lol!

We're having the same problem. DD is 8mths and since she's been pulling to standing she's been desperate to do this instead of sleeping (she did a similar thing with rolling). We went from 2-10mins for her to self settle to an hour with me constantly lying her down until she was so tired she eventually stayed down and slept.

We had the falling over and crying as well which made me not want to leave her, but then I was worried about becoming a sleep prop as I was staying with her with a hand on her chest to keep her down and/or stroking her head. I thought it would never improve but 2 weeks down the line she is settling more easily, although still with me in the room and tonight she finally lay down by herself, although it did take 45mins.

In short I think once the novelty wears off it does start to get easier!

It does pass, then you enter wonder week 55 (google it, worth a read) and the sleep deteriorates again! Wink As with all things baby-related though, that too is just a phase and can be survived with an excess of coffee and by holding onto the fact that will improve. Cot bumpers can soften falls a little, and yes I'd remove a big plastic music toy. Stick to a couple of safe soft toys - dd2 (now 13mo) has a Fisher Price lullaby seahorse which plays soothing lullabies and helps her drop off to sleep.
