Unsettled 15 week old

I have posted this in Children's Health as well but just wondered if anyone had had a similar experience and if this may be a developmental leap rather than my baby being under the weather.

I just wanted some advice about my son. He has been really unsettled for a week or so now, some days more than others. I have been reading The Wonder Weeks and while it is the right time for a developmental leap I wanted to make sure.

He has gone from draining his bottles to really seeming to struggle with them, sometimes he will leave an ounce or two but last night he only drunk two ounces. He seems to be almost gagging and we keep having to sit him up. I have swapped to size 2 teats because he was falling asleep but have switched back to size 1 and this makes no difference.

He is really clingy one minute and just wants to snuggle in, then he is fighting and wriggling to sit up. He wants to sit bolt upright, or even tipping over forwards - he throws himself forwards and almost catapults out of my arms.

He has had a cold for a while which is on its way out now but even though he sounded very chesty the GP said he was fine (the chestiness came and went, unfortunately it wasn't there when I took him to the GP). I have used saline spray on him along with snuffle babe and propped his crib up. His dad and I have both had bad colds along with very sore throats (mine was a tonsillitis type of pain), if it was hurting him to swallow I suppose he might not want his bottle?

He has been resisting naps in the day but sleeping well at night, doesn't have a temperature and is producing lots of wet and dirty nappies.

Oh I forgot to say he has been drooling a lot and shoving as much of his fist in his mouth as he can, no sign of any teeth yet, bug what could be a calcium deposit at the back of his lower gum. It is like going back to his colicky days and I don't know if it is normal.

No advice, sorry but have a 15 week old doing the same thing. No cold/sickness but I feel a spurt/leap coming on! Shock

My ds is 16 weeks and having a cold really does affect his feeding. if he has a sore throat then he doesn't feed well, and likewise if he feels a bit bunged up he'll refuse as well. At times I've had to use saline drops and a snot sucker four times in one feed! He's also been drooling and putting his hands in his mouth a lot. Not sure if that's teething or a developmental thing.

My 12 week DS has been exactly like you describe for four weeks now, since his immunisations - except the fussy drinking only lasted a week or so and now he's feeding more than before.

Today will be the fourth time he's been to the GP in as many weeks and I've been fobbed off with 'viral infection one too many times now. The last time they diagnised croup and the next day we ended up in paediatric a & e because he was struggling to breathe. They said it should greatly improve in 1-2 days but almost a week later he's still wheezing.

I will let you know if I have any revelations from the doctor...

We were told silent reflux could be the problem. Hope it has passed and your LO is feeling better!
