Football mad

Has anyone come across a 4 year old who is interested in football to the extent where he (or she!) is not interested in much else?! My son is obsessed to the point where he easily sits through a full match (my husband takes him to home games) & he'll watch any football going on the tv. He knows most players and can identify nearly every team. He'll also kick a ball about at any given opportunity. At the moment I'm just going with it but has anyone else come across this?

Yes, all my three boys were obsessed from toddlerhood, joined clubs at 5, wrote pages and pages and pages of real and imaginary football statistics as soon as they could hold a pencil. Every soft toy in the house was in a team. It took over our lives, matches, training, 5 a side, 7 a side, tournaments, trips to a and e.
And still it carries on...... Well into twenties and thirties now.
On the plus side.... All consuming hobbies with good mentors and role models kept them well on the straight and narrow, very focused, good team players, fit and healthy ( despite youngest not eating for years, see resistant eater thread!)
Embrace it and learn a bit about the rules so you can(pretend to be )interested.
Good luck!

..... Its all coming back to me now! There is also the many years of collecting football stickers each year and football kits that keep changing desins every year for birthdays and Christmas presents. Stitching elastic garters to hold up the football socks, clogging up the washing machine with muddy stuff, the year eldest son brought home the entire team kit on Christmas eve as it was our turn to wash it and it was needed again on Boxing Day!
Happy days though with lots of good memories ( thats if I forget the rude shouty parents on the touchline......)

.... For a total of 20years we never went anywhere without a ball

Thanks storynanny. Sounds like good fun & I'm sure it can only be a positive thing for him. I'm surprised just how into it he is. Nothing else comes close!

.... And if you have further sons you will be totally outnumbered and lose control of the remote. Football coverage is on a constant loop.
I wouldnt have had it any different though.
However...... I would also have enjoyed watching a bit of ballet or tap for a change.

I have a two year old daughter and I think she's already sick of the football being on most the time! Poor thing. I can't imagine what it must've been like having 3 football mad boys!

Plus they developed an equally absorbing obsession with watching, playing and talking about cricket ( paint drying)
At least you will be able to do girly things together every weekend!
