My 3.1/2 refuse to eat!

My daughter has always been an ok eater, she eats small amount but will try most foods. Last week she had a cold so I expected her not to eat well. She is over her cold now but her eating has gone downhill. She has a small breakfast (a few bite of toast , or 3-4 teaspoon of cereal), followed by lunch around 12pm, rice with veg (only manages a few spoon then yogurt and fruit. Dinner around 4-5pm, again a few bite of sausages and couple of baked beans. Her appetite for the whole week is appalling. Everyday she can only manages 4-5 tea spoon and then she stops. If she doesn't want to eat, she stores the food in her mouth and refuse to swallow. She will then spit it out in the bin. It's driving me crazy- She eats less than a baby! I am taking her to the gp to rule any medical issue, has anyone experience the same problem or is this normal? My first dd has a good appetite and he was never like this at her age! I take her to playgroup so she gets really hungry but doesn't make much difference with her eating. I stop her snacking/ filling up on juices etc..

Let her eat what she wants. Stop making an issue of it, especially if she already feels she has to hide food from you in her cheek!

Offer her lots of different things and if she eats, she eats. She won't starve.

Thanks. She will eat biscuits, crisp and chocolate all day if I let her, but I don't want her to think this is 'normal' food. I do cook proper meals every day and I'm fed up seeing it going to waste. She use to eat quite well but now it's going downhill and I'm worried she's not getting any nutrients. Hmm

Don't give her those things, keep them out of the house.

And I won't bother with the GP. She's just having a phase.

This too shall pass.

Oh and that is normal food. All food is normal.

ianleeder · 25/11/2013 21:04

Thank you. I'm hoping this is a phase. Hmm

Everything is a phase. Some just last longer than others.
