3 year old says he wants to wee or poo as an excuse when he doesn't want to do something else

Not sure if title explains it well. DS now 3.6 was abit late in potty training 3.2 for wees (he then went from nappies to being totally dry without accidents in a couple of days), it took him longer to get the hang of poos but he seems to be about there now with the odd accident.

Anyway sometimes if theres something he doesn't want to do, he'll say a need a wee-wee or i need a poo-poo so he can go to toilet potty. Like yesterday for example he didn't want to go to nursery (specific reason for this now sorted) so when we were out at car he says 'i want to poo-poo' so i asked him if he really did and that i would be cross if he wasn't telling the truth and we ended up going back in and then he did a massive poo so he was telling the truth. But then this morning he was messing around and didn't want to get dressed so he said he needed a poo and then went and sat on potty for about half hour with no result. If he ever gets put on naughty step he instantly needs a wee

No advice but dd is currently doing this at bedtime and in the night. It's an impossible situation as you never really know if they are telling you the truth! Last night she had me up 5 times and actually only did 1 wee, I'm shattered as also have a 5 month old who is currently feeding at least every 2 hours!!!

DD (now 4.1) used to do this, notably at bedtime Grin. We eventually started telling her at the point she got on the toilet that she had five minutes to do a wee or poo and after that she had to get off on the basis that five mins is long enough for a child who's fairly well toilet trained to produce something if they need to. Obviously if at five mins she was mid-poo we didn't take her off!

DD does this in the middle of dinner every evening without fail. She is 3.8. Its rather annoying!

Yep they figure out pretty quick that you drop everything for them to wee or poo.

I don't think there's a quick fix.

We are muddling along with a potty on the bedroom (so she doesn't get out of her room for her trouble)
Time limit on the potty if im suspicious
