DS turns 3 next week. Suggestions for new books? He loves reading. He loves monsters, dinosaurs, all the Julia D books, cars, trains, Thomas etc...

I got some fantastic ideas off here for his 2nd birthday so hopefully you can help.

Thanks

My son is 2.3 but loves longer books. We just introduced Paddington, which is a huge hit. He is also obsessed with all the Curious George books, particularly Curious George Gets a Medal and Curious George Flies a Kite. Winnie the Pooh Collection is another favourite, and we have lot of Thomas books (Down at the Docks, Percy and the Haunted Mine, James and the Red Balloon etc.).

If he loves dinosaurs, do you have Danny and the Dinosaur? The Lyle the Crocodile books are great, too, particularly the House on East 88th Street.

Does he like Mr Men books

My son is the same age and loves The Pirates Next Door and Dinosaur Stomp. He's also into Richard Scarry in a big way! Hope this helps :-)

The Little Red Train books are fab
Meg and Mog
Small Knight and George
Winnie the Witch

Theironfistofarkus · 23/11/2013 07:13

You choose. My children love that book!

Thanks for suggestions, have ordered a couple of little red train books and found a small knight bundle on ebay as these are DS's current obsessions.
(He loves JD, but I am getting a bit tired of reading Room on the Broom and What the Ladybird heard every night!!

Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs series, another vote for the popularity of the Little Red Train. Does he like longer books? If so, my 3yo dd is very into Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog-(out of print, but available on amazon marketplace).

Just thought of a few more: Snortle hunting, dinosaur sleepover, the Harry and the bucketful of dinosaurs collection, Herb the boy whose book came to life (contains wolves). Also the Lucy Cousins collection of fairy tales is nicely grisly-Yummy, though it is quite brutal.

I second the Mr Men (and little misses) DS 3.6 loves them

insanityscratching · 23/11/2013 09:59

Hairy Maclary and Slinki Malinky series were loved by dd at that age and the rhymes make them nice to read and easy for the children to remember so as to "read" them themselves.

insanityscratching · 23/11/2013 10:01

Aliens love underpants (and all the following stories) and the Funnybones books were also a hit.

slothlike · 23/11/2013 10:06

My ds (3.3) loves:

The Flying Diggers (Ian Whybrow & David Melling)
Supermarket Zoo (Caryl Hart & Ed Eaves)
How to Grow a Dinosaur (Caryl Hart & Ed Eaves)
The Way Back Home (Oliver Jeffers)

We have a lot of books - the above are the ones he asks for again and again and again...

Spottybra · 23/11/2013 10:08

Second funnybones.

Mine liked and still loved classics like 3 little pigs, 3 billy goats gruff, jack and the beanstalk...

Also likes dr Seuss, Alfie series, and Ronald dahl's the very hungry crocodile.

Oh, and one called Chimp and Zee. I hate chimp and zee.
