Can your 4 year old ride a bike without stabilisers?

Just that really. DS is desperate to ride his bike to his new school on Monday but I don't want him to look like a baby if he can't master without stabilisers over the weekend!

Yes, but that's because we live in Cambridge were every 2 year old rides around on a balance bike and everyone cycles. My dd was on a balance bike from 2. Because of this, I'm pretty sure she could have ridden a proper bike without stablisers before she was 3, but the thought of a not quite 3 year old loose on the streets riding around at breakneck speed, meant she wasn't allowed to try. She learned when she was around 3 1/2.

My Ds1 could at 3.5 after 18m on a balance bike. There are still kids in his class at 6/7 who have stabilisers, it will not be at all unusual at four. still had school giving him learn to ride a bike as a target last year till I pointed out he regularly rides 14 miles
Take the pedals and stabilisers off the bike for a few weeks and set the seat low enough for feet to be flat on the floor and then once you have balance put the pedals back and you'll be away!

Another cambridge person here with a balance bike learner. She could ride a bike properly at 3.5. She's now just 5 and supremely confident on a geared bike. I am also anti-stabiliser. Just take the pedals off.
