Alternative to the travel cot?

We bought a pack and play travel cot for DS (5months), but he won't settle to sleep in it, as the cot is quite tall and putting him down in it triggers the startle reflex. I am quite short and nearly fall in the damn thing, when trying to get him in and out.

We are going to sleep over at a friend's house in two weeks time. I am dreading the trip as DS wakes up 3-4 times a night and trying to put him back to bed after a night feed will be a PITA with the cot. I got it 2nd hand for a tenner, so I really don't care if it never gets used again.

Any suggestions, alternatives or tips?

Thanks in advance...

google "pop up travel cot" - might this suit you and your baby?

Is co sleeping an option?

I'm a short arse too and found that getting ds in and out of the travel cot difficult. Can dh help out? Alternatively, could he sleep in a push chair? Ds at 2 sometimes goes all night in his will no ill effects after refusing to get in his cot and dh and I just losing the will to live strap him in and take him for a walk until he sleeps

I have the exact same problem! As I type, my 5.5 mo is on a little make-shift bed on the floor next to me as we're away at the moment. She has a small quilt and a clean folded towel under her and her usual cellular blankets on top & is as happy as larry! My view is at this age she's pretty much happy wherever is safe and snug and warm & it's making her really adaptable - she just snoozes wherever!

Cheers, everyone. Makeshift bed may be the way forward, or possibly co sleeping, if I can convince DH he won't squish the baby! I like the look of the pop up cots, but they look quite small; DS is a looong child.
