Any good books for dealing with being scared of the dark?

I don't know where DD (2.9) has suddenly got this from but she's waking up screaming at 3am every night wanting the light turned on. Any good picture books I could be be reading her at night that approach this issue, to reassure her?

She's going through a funny phase generally, but I think it's a normal developmental thing. Her world's opening up and she's not so self-assured anymore and is scared of new things.

Any recommendations? Thanks! xx

have had exactly the same for last 6 months with 3.1 dd

she never had an issue with the dark before but suddenly started waking and screaming. some were night terrors were she wasn't awake but other times she was properly awake and had to read and comfort

started off by having some fairy lights in room, then a dream catcher, then an amethyst under the pillow, then we threw the bad dreams out of the door as part of bedtime ritual. talk about propping up the props! she's been fine for the past month though

I found that she was fine after the introduction of the latest prop, but this would only last a few weeks and introduced a new aid.

she might have grown out of it anyway but it's horrible when they're so upset

oh and also tried to emphasise that her dreams were just pictures and stories in her head, just like her books. also didn't ask about content of dreams, and she only volunteered any detail once

Night monkey day monkey by Julia Donaldson is great. Nocturnal monkey experiences daytime world and vice versa. Also Owl Babies - baby owls wake at night to find mother owl has left nest to hunt.

The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. Not a picture book, but a perfect read aloud for this age.
Why not put a dim bulb in a lamp for her?

What about the Anthony Brown book Silly Billy. I bought my daughter a set of the worry dolls, got her to tell the dolls her worries, then put under her pillow. You could do one about a worry about darkness. The book looks at worries, andchowcto deal with them, and the boy in the story gets given a set of worry dolls from his grandmother.

Does she like 'little princess'...? We've got this one.

www.amazon.co.uk/Want-My-Light-Little-Princess/dp/1842707345/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384806300&sr=8-1&keywords=Little+princess+light+on

We've also got a pabobo barba pappa. Glows softly all night, safe to have in bed with her, and she could carry it if she leaves the room like a torch. My dd adores hers.....
