'w' instead of 'r' in (almost) 6yo DD

My DD2 (6 next week) says her rs like Jonathon Woss! I s/w her teacher at last year's & this year's PT meeting & I also spoke to our local S&LT dept. Last year it wasn't an issue at all, this year as she's sounding & spelling words it's possibly making life a little more difficult. She's in the top reading group, though so it's not holding her back too much. S&LT dept say not to worry, it's generally not a concern until children are 8, it's the last speech impediment to correct itself. However, if I want to I can self-refer. We've had one episode where the children in the street were laughing at how she says 'rabbit' ('wabbit' obv..), but apart from this she's not at all self conscious about it. As she's quite a shy little girl, I don't want to draw her attention to it & make her self conscious, but neither do I want to ignore it if it can be sorted for her. I fear leaving referral until 8 will mean that it's more difficult to address. Anyone have any experience with this type of speech issue?

My only experience is that I had this as a child. My parents have a video of me talking about Snow White and the seven dwawfs! I grew out of it buy the end of primary school and have no problems with it unless I'm talking really really fast and a 'w' may slip in but no one notices.

Thank you for your reply!! I'd so much prefer not to draw her attention to it: she's a sensitive little soul. This gives me hope.

My DTs (6 in Jan) both have slight probs. One has the w/r thing going on the other has f/th. SLT said wait til milk teeth are lost at front as this can make a huge difference. We have been advised to toake DT2 back when he's 7 if still a problem.
