He is 3.7 and had his speech checked when he was about 2.5 and they said it was fine apart from the way in which he sounded his S's. She said it would either clear up or not.

Well he still can't say them but i'm not sure if 3.7 yr old's are meant to be able to.

He sounds it as a H so Ham instead of Sam, Huperman instead of Superman etc etc. He also can't prounnce his F's and again uses the H sound instead, so Hish instead of Fish, Hat instead of Fat etc.
Oh and L is Y so Yeg instead of Leg etc.

So problem or not do you think ?

Dunno, No 4 was 4 in May and can't say her 's's, so we have fwimmin' for swimming etc! Quite cute, really.

Ahh right. I am pretty sure Dd2 had the same problem and was older but can't remember now.

Your right though it is cute and my friend thinks it's hilarious that her son gets called Hamuel.

my ds (4) can't pronuonce f's very well either, i am sure alot of it will correct itself as they get older

Most kids get their 's' and 'f' between about 3-3.5, so he's not very late, but maybe he should perhaps be starting to get them by now. If you're concerned get in touch with your local Speech and langauge therapist. This is an issue which is usually fairly easily sorted out with a few sessions with the therapist.

Nutty my dd is under speech therapy and she is 3.8. She cannot say L very well or L
From what I can recall the h and the y sounds they make are called fronting which is transitional, and up to age 4 it is normal.
DD is almost getting s now and she had nothing near it 5 wks ago so it does happen quickly and as for L I know plenty of 5-6 yr olds still struggle with it tbh.

DS1 had speech therapy the Spring before he started reception. He couldnt say his 'K' s (said tat for cat etc) and something else but cant remember now!

He responded really well and spoke correctly by the time he started reception.

The HV referred us saying that it is a good idea for children to be able to speak properly (and should be able to speak properly) by the time they start full time school.

I dont know if that helps at all.

But my friend's DD will start year 1 in September and she still doesnt speak 'correctly' and her HV said that was fine! So dunno!!
