My friend was told to use olive oil on her baby's dry skin

KippyVonKipperson · 15/11/2013 10:20

The advice is just to leave it - ifs it's on her hands don't put anything on them as it may go in her mouth. It'll clear up by itself quicker too

it's just the outer layer coming off - it's happened to the hands and feet of both my babies. Don't pick at it, don't bath him more than you have to, and by all means rub in some olive oil if you want.

As long as you don't pick, and go easy on the baths it'll all come off on its own with no fuss or pain - they just look a bit odd for a while.

Ah, good point about the hands in mouth/eyes. Probably best to just leave it entirely then.

When my DS was dry all over at around that age we put a little sweet almond oil in his bath water. It's from the flower not the nut so not an allergenic. But you'll probs be ok to wait til you see the HV.

Coconut oil is the best thing to use on baby's skin.

My HV told me olive oil. We actually just left it though and it soon cleared up.

Just leave it - it's a good sign, it means he's putting on weight and literally splitting his skin!

On the baths front, none of mine had a bath till they were at least a month old. They don't need anything other than a top and tail.

coconut oil
