8.5 sleep.....

sparker22 · 14/11/2013 15:51

I have an 8.5 month girly, she doesn't yet sleep through the night (Ive tried all sorts I'd things, currently trying the banana before bedtime as Ive heard amazing stories about bananas helping babies sleep through...not currently working though :-( )
Any tips on helping baby to sleep through? She cries the moment she starts to wake and is on her feet (in grobag) before her eyes are open!!)
Also, is kalms ok to take to help me drift off to sleep whilst looking after a baby as I gave terrible trouble getting to sleep these days.

Thanks :-)

i totally feel your frustration. its horrible. last night was my best yet. woke at 2. had some water and then slept til 6am. ive never heard the high fat /protein thing. i will be more aware at meal times tomorrow and feed him a nice pasta cheese bake or something and see if it makes a difference. i literally will try anything. my nearly 4 yr old has slept through since she was 3months old so i just naively thought he would sleep well too lol x

sparker22 · 24/11/2013 04:03

after a bit of research on Google (I love google Grin ) it could be a phase, happens with some babies between 7.5 & 9.5 months for no apparent reason Sad
but then if I looked on Google long enough I could find a million 'reasons'! lol

we had a weird day, phoebe was off her food, managed to get 18oz formula in to her before she went to bed.
she wanted badly to go to bed at 6pm but managed to stretch it out to 7:30pm....and she slept till 3am!! donno if she was a bit under the weather (though she seemed fine in herself other then her eating), or if ir was the new fleecy sleepsuit her nanny bought her? or maybe shes just shattered from 3/4weeks rubbish sleep!?! lol

shes had 4.5oz water and now won't go back to sleep!! Sad

i had an awful night with him last night. like back to the old times. up more or less every hour then wide awake screaming at 5.40am then woke my other one up so had to get up properly then :-( you got quite a good gap inbetween going to sleep then waking again. hopefully she getting the idea(well i pray she is for u lol) little tinkers arent they. good job we love them so much x

sparker22 · 24/11/2013 13:43

oh no! poor you and bubba. hope it was a one off and you have a better night tonight!

phoebe went back to sleep at 4:30am and slept till 7!! realllllly hoping this is the start of a looooong line of good nights!! if it happens again I'm getting more fleecy onsie sleepsuits in case its that that helped!! Smile

hmmm...I'm expecting a bad night...phoebe has had lots of teething pain today, not eaten a lot and had been only 14oz formula, usually has 20-22oz...so I think when she wakes up I'll miss the water and go for formula tonight, probably just undo the last few nights but I worry shes not had enough food/fluids Sad

I hope you guys are both doing well. I completely empathise as DD was still getting up 3 times a night at 8.5mo and I was back at work with my DH travelling a lot. Nearly went loopy... But I found the advice given in a book called "the sleepeasy solution" invaluable (and ~ 5 of my friends swear by it now too).

I don't want to promise miracles as the little mites are all different, but it worked for me (she slept through, 7pm-6am mostly after 2 nights), so might be worth giving it a go?

You will get your sleep (life) back at some point soon, honest!!

dannisilvester · 24/11/2013 22:33

just try water first. she might surprise you and just take the water and be satisfied with that. you will soon know if shes genuinely hungry. i think you will ruin your hard work over the last few nights if you go straight in with milk.ive bought some herbal nytol to take tonight. took me hours to get to sleep last night and thanks for the recommendation of that book katOD. i will have a look for it

sparker22 · 25/11/2013 03:48

she woke up 10 minutes before you replied! lol. gave her milk, she went back to sleep after and slept till 3, gave her water then. shes only had couple oz of water, but won't go back to sleep like last night, so were having a cuddle and I'm gonna play solitaire on my phone ......

thomas woke at 2..had a bit of water then slept til 5.30 again but was wide awake then and i had to get up. i dont know what to do to make him sleep just an hour more in the morning because in a few weeks hes going to have to get up then anyway when i return to work. he full on turns his nose up at the water at 5.30am and just crys and he wakes my other one up so have to get him up x what time did phoebe end up settling down after the 3am feed?

sparker22 · 25/11/2013 18:59

she was asleep again at 4:20. till 6. then we accidentally slept through breakfast Sad again! must stop doing that! naughty mummy!
I think playing Phoebe's favourite song on my phone helps to keep her quiet and sleepy. have you tried playing some music quietly?

she has a lot of milk doesnt she. im lucky to get 6oz down him on his last bottle. ive been watching him on the camera tonight and hes quite restless so im not holding out much hope. have you ever considering this dream feeding thing? i dont know whether to give milk before i go to sleep or am i creating a problem there?

sparker22 · 26/11/2013 15:23

when phoebe was smaller I used to do a sort of dream feed.
whether she had gone to sleep or was still awake, 9pm I would wake her up, change her nappy, clothes, then give a bottle then bed. used to work but I wouldn't dream of waking her up for a dream feed now! only ciz she wakes up crying (I don't know why) then wants to play.
you could try a dream feed? might work for you?

that is fab. well done you and phoebe! ive been away for the weekend without the kids for a well needed break. thomas has been waking once now at 11pm. i actually feed milk on this wake then hes been sleeping right through til 6.15am so im very happy now. finally getting a chunk of sleep at once. how has she been doing since your last post?

sparker22 · 03/12/2013 13:58

that's great!
hope you had a lovely break too!
phoebes still doing great, couple bad nights with lots of wakes, but it now takes only 10-15 mins to get her back yo sleep in her cot, used to take 45-90 mins before!! but thinking it was defiantly teething, shes got 3 coming through at the top front!!!
