Back molars coming through, should it be this hellish?

I really can't take any more of this. DD is 2 and I can see one of her back molars is starting to poke through. She has had an almost constant temperature for the past week and a half. She is having up to 5 tantrums a day and when's she not doing that she's whingeing and crying. She won't play with her toys, she won't let me read to her, she'll only watch tv if she's sat on mine or DP's knee. The house is pretty much filthy by this point and DP and I are barely speaking to each other we've been falling out so much.

I took her to the doctors for her temperature but they said there's nothing wrong. Is this normal for back molars? She never really suffered much with any of her other teeth.

I'm at the end of my rope already. Feel completely unprepared and unable to deal with this sort if behaviour.

Is this normal? Any tips? Or just tales to cheer me up?

Calpol. More Calpol. Then some ibruprofen. Then some more Calpol.

Yes, it really is that painful for the poor things.

Babies/Toddlers are so badly designed. Grin

We are dosing her up quite a bit. The doctor said just to keep in doing it and not worry about it but it doesn't seem to be having that much of an effect.

I've tried offering her ice lolly's but she just refuses them. She's barely eaten at all to be honest.

I feel like a terrible mother. I just want her to shush for a bit. I know she's in pain but she's being naughty as well as everything else (throwing plates of food on the floor, pushing/hitting things people).

I wonder if I left her on the neighbours doorstep they'd take her in... And maybe DP too although he'd be a harder sell.

It varies a lot - not all children suffer from teething.

Could it be her ears?

CareBearWithFangs · 10/11/2013 17:44

I thought it must be something else too but the doctor checked everything and she's fine.

I'm hiding in the kitchen while DP attempts to keep her calm. I imagine that our almost constant arguing it not improving her mood.

No answers but having the same issues with my dd here if it helps. Hideous behaviour, lots of "no no no" to absolutely bloody everything, much whining and clinging and only TV and her dummy keeps her remotely happy. I'm just riding it out while hiding in the kitchen as much as I can to stay sane. It will be over soon!

Me too! Me too! Second back molar is coming through at the moment - just noticed it this morning. DS has been a demon child at times lately, refuses to eat (normally you can't fill him) and his nappies are horrendous. Cbeebies on my knee is the only thing that will calm him. Only 2 more to go

When my wisdom teeth came through, it was agony. I think we have them to remind us what teething is like for toddlers. Ashton and Parsons really work- Lord only knows how.

You could try making up some clove water (hot water with cloves in- leave to infuse and cool and remove cloves) which has a numbing effect when drunk.

I hope they cut through soon. x

Thank god it's it just me! She's currently sat on my knee with a dummy while we watch cbeebies.

Yes, it's hideous. Going through it with DS now. From what I remember, when DD's came through we survived through lots of medication, lots of TV and letting her eat whatever she wanted as she wasn't eating normally. I worried that this would lead to a lifetime's of eating issues but she was fine on normal food/meals again once they were through.
