My DS who will be 3 in a few weeks has in the last week or so started very odd rapid blinking with his eyes. He does it most mornings and evenings and these are the only times we have the tv on for a short while so I can get his and DD (14months) food ready etc.
Could this be he needs glasses????
Or more worryingly is it a stress type response as he does do it when not looking at TV.
Worried sick about it. Sad
His behaviour had been a struggle for the last 18months (even before DD arrived) and he us very physical. I feel I spend all day telling him off or having a go about some misdemeanour or another- often incredibly rough and physical with DD so cannot be ignored. Even did a toddler behaviour course with him at local childrens centre.
Feel an utter failure and that my mismanagement of his behaviour has resulted in some kind of stress response from him .
Any advice/similar experiences hugely appreciated

I'm an eye specialist , its something we see loads of at this age, tends to be habitual with no cause.

However it can be a symptom of struggling to focus, so best to get an eye check, because of age, I'd ask health visitor for a referral to orthotics, they can test vision not just a need for glasses.

Don't panic! My bet , is that he will be fine.

Thank you twilightsparkle. That has definitely helped my huge panic! Our poor old HV going to be sick of us- DS has multiple and baffling food allergies to the point we have to be seen at Great Ormand Street and also at Guys Hospital (and no we don't live near London so big day out for us always!!) He's also just been referred to Speech and Language as no one apart from us can really understand what he's saying properly although his cognition and range of vocab is fine . Sad
Will definitely get it checked to rule out the focusing thing- I developed a double squint aged 4 and needed corrective surgery on both eyes so guess its in the genes???
Starting to feel slightly hysterical at all these issues he has, although the rational part of my brain knows he's otherwise healthy and well and there are families dealing with a lot worse health issues with their children Blush

My DD had this odd wink/blink habit at about that age..... lasted 2 years and surfaced when she was tired/stressed - we worked with the doc and eventually he gave her sugar pills for it - a complete placebo - which worked totally....

DS1 did this. It was really alarming. He used to do it while watching the TV, or concentrating.

It lasted a few months, I was really worried at the time.

We did take him to the Opticians and he still has regular eye test now at 14.

My dd developed some eye ticks at this age. I was v worried but they just went. She was very stressed at her nursery so we moved her. They may have been related but I am not sure.

Anyhow, she's 9 with no ticks! Maybe an eye test would be prudent!

Thank you everyone for your advice/experiences. Will definitely contact HV for advice on how to get him tested. Up at Guys Hospital again this week so might mention it there (although not sure what a gastro specialist can do!!).
He has had some big changes- moved house and areas in August. Will look at ways DH and I can reduce stress points in his life and maybe take advice from GP too.
Thanks again- still worried but at least have a plan of action now rather than flapping about it!!
