I'm a new mum to my beautiful DD who is now 15 weeks old! I've been to the drs 3x this week with her and am still worried! For the last week she has been having greeny runny poo which is not normal for her, being sick more than normal and tonight i have felt a pea sized lump on the back of her neck?? I'm insure if it's all connected and just a bug or something worse! I'm so worried I can't keep going back and forth to the doctors!

My DS went through a phase of spectacularly green frothy poo it was awful. I too went back and forth to the GP who said it was fine. It is the gut and digestive system maturing. I wasn't convinced and looked into allergies, things I was eating (I was breast feeding) etc... But it went away all by itself. Try not to worry. Are there any other symptoms?

MrPricklepants · 08/11/2013 21:37

I should read the post better, whereabouts in the neck is this pea sized lump?

YouAreMySunShine271 · 08/11/2013 21:40

Just abit further round from her ear towards the nape of neck ?? it moves around easily

Well the poo thing sounds totally normal so I really wouldn't worry about that. Is the lump red? Hard? Could it not just be a spot? What about seeing your health visitor?

Gintonic · 08/11/2013 21:43

We used to call those cappuccino poos! They aren't nice and can make bottoms sore but I don't think it is a sign if illness. BUT as a new mum you are entitled to be paranoid so don't feel bad about going to Dr.

Some people say the frothy poo is caused by getting too much fore milk and not enough hind milk, so if you are BF you could try keeping her on the first boob longer? That never helped my DS though, he just grew out of it.

MrPricklepants · 08/11/2013 21:44

Hhhmmmm I know nothing about lumps, does she have fever or any other symptoms that could be bringing her nodes up? It might be worth getting checked out.

The poo is not a big deal, honestly I think nearly all babies have spectacularly green poo at some point, but a lump is probably worth getting checked out if it's still there on Monday with your GP. Don't worry about going back and forth to the GP if you feel you need to, they're very understanding where young babies are concerned.

YouAreMySunShine271 · 08/11/2013 21:45

I think it's more the lump I'm worried about now! You can't see anything can just feel it and she doesn't seem bothered by us feeling it.

According to the NHS website it sounds like it could be a harmless cyst. Maybe if it doesn't go or change over the next few days get the doctor to look at it.

KippyVonKipperson · 08/11/2013 21:48

Is the lump a lymph node? Everyone has them, and they are more raised and noticeable when fighting off a bug. A bit like the glands in children's neck. Try googling it, you'll see if its in the right place. There's one on the other side of the head too although sometimes one can be more prominent than the other.

Keep an eye on the nappies and see the health visitor or GP if they persist, could be an allergy

YouAreMySunShine271 · 08/11/2013 21:51

Could possibly be a lymph node as she does have a cold?! I think I'll take her in the morning just incase and to put me at ease. I just feel silly as I've been 3x already this week

It's Saturday tomorrow so you'll have to go OOH and IME their not good and won't follow through. See your GP on Monday if it's still there, I predict it won't be because she has a cold and it's likely to be better by then.

sittinginthesun · 08/11/2013 22:02

Green poo is common - in our case, ds2 had it every time I ate chocolate.

Re: the lump. A very close friend is head nurse in a local hospital. She always says give every lump 10 days before you worry. So many are cysts or spots that come and go.

But, if you are worrying, always see your GP. They do understand that you worry with babies, and it's completely normal to visit the doctors loads in the first months.

YouAreMySunShine271 · 08/11/2013 22:10

I forgot it was Friday today Confused I'll wait until Monday and see what it's like! She seems to be her normal smiley happy self so probably the cold...I hope!

Hi. I have 3 boys and they all had green poos at some point. The lump sounds like a lymph node that comes up when they have a slight cold or infection. My oldest son had one and it never completely went away. It was in the same place you describe and when he was a toddler you could see it if he turned his head to the side. We had it checked out at the GP and were told it was normal and not to worry unless it got much bigger. I would go back for your own reassurance if you are worried though.
