Expressing b-milk how and when?

I am b feeding and would like to introduce bottle and expressed milk to dd for maybe 1 feed a day/night. I'm just not sure how to go about it. Obv I know how to use my pump but when should I do it? Also do I pump for as long as I can or for 10 mins a few times a day as recommended. If I do that though wont dd just be getting foremilk (although I don't think foremilk, hindmilk is discussed now is it??) I don't want my breast to be lacking the next time dd needs a feed or dor my boobs to be engorged either!

Dd is 9 weeks old.

abby don't worry too much about the fore/hind milk thing. There's not a magic number of minutes where the milk gradually becomes more fatty. There's an article about it here.

Also, you will have enough milk for your Lo next time you feed. Your breasts produce the milk as it is needed rather than acting as a warehouse. So say if you always pump at 9am, your body will soon realise that you need to produce extra milk for baby then.

Like some other mums, I found it easier to pump whilst feeding. According to lellymom you should pump for at least 10 minutes, but no more than 20.

If you are wanting to offer a bottle or cup each day, you may have to express several times to get enough milk.

If you leak, you can collect the leaked milk in breast shells and store that too Smile

I'm not trained, and wasn't brilliant at expressing so I'd ask MNHQ to move this thread to the breast/bottle section where you should get some more posts. I'd also speak to a BFC. Have you got the helpline numbers?

Thanks jilted. Yes I have a bf counsellor near me so was planning to drop in tomorrow. I didn't realise about fore and hind milk etc it makes sense now I have read it. Didn't realise pumping milk takes longer than normal feeding. Thank you! How much should I aim to express for 1 bottle?

There is some info on how much ebm they need here.

You might also want to consider cup feeding and have you read how to bottle feed the bf baby? Smile
