What can I do with tummy time...

My LO IS 4 mo (19weeks) and right from beginning hates tummy time...
He screams, gets congested, dosen't hold his head up....he makes such a fuss that I have no option but pick him up...

The main problem is he is able to roll from back to front and then gets stuck..I've tried toys/books/mirror/me in front of him but nothing works.Other things seems to be OK,as he sits(supported),holds his head ,supports his body on his legs really well,so why he hates being on his tummy so much? Confused
I'm a bit worried about milestones....my other 2 were OK and started walking fairly early(10 mo and 8.5mo),were crawling and enjoyng tummy time since day one and this one seems to be a bit on a lazy side...
Should I panic or just let it go....????

he's only 4 months so keep calm. What about if you prop him up on his tummy with a cushion so he can see a bit more? Some babies just dont like tummy time at all but they still go on to crawling/walking, etc.

Don't panic at all, he's still so young. Your other dc's were quite advanced in my experience.

With my little lazy bones I used to lie down and put her on my chest, tummy down and she felt more comfortable having a bit of tummy time that way. When she got more confident she went back to the play mat. We also got something a bit like this.

His tummy against your chest counts. Do that instead of on his own on the floor.

Oooh girls, you're real godsend....I will try to relax, I think its the gap that makes me so anxious (youngest is 11 atm) and I'm fretting about the tiniest thing. ....
I know its off the topic but all the advice is so confusing(internet/HV ),I'm trying to ignore the most but unsuccessfuly....
But there is lovely MN ..... Grin

What Tee said is spot on - we never did tummy time on the floor with DS, but he spent a lot of time pushing out/up from our chests. Obviously didn't hinder his movement skills as he was crawling at 6 1/2 mo and fully freak of naturewalking at 8 1/2 mo.

Also, it can take quite a while for babies to learn to turn over the other way - DS spent a good 5 or 6 weeks only being able to flip over onto his front but not being able to flip back over to his back (which would really frustrate him, the poor thing!)

Re. using a cushion - a rolled up towel works just as well and doesn't have a m&p price tag!

Hmm I must be invisible again.

Yes the baby Einstein one? We have that playmat but the whale wasn't good for dd either.

Mumra spot on the Einstein one, it's lovely and bought it 1/2 price but LO it's not as excited as I am...
Tiny it's not freaky as my middle one was fast baby....they just rush as if there is no time tomorrow lol
