So, what can I do, apart from stopping every couple of minutes sticking them back?

Thanks

watching this thread with interest as my 22 month old does same thing - very upsetting on a 45 mins motorway journey to my parents...

ChiTownLady · 06/07/2006 19:42

I always stop the car and say we are not moving until you are sitting properly...I have done this - wherever it is safe to stop and stuck the hazards on. It was a really phase for ds and after a while he stopped. I also told him that he would fall out of the car if his arms werent in.
He does in occasionnaly now ( age 3) but the emergency car stop always seem to work ( or at least the threat)
Also I tended to make him put them back himself rather than me doing it - unless got himself in a pickle....

you can get velcro sleves to close up the gap at the front of the straps - I can't recal the name though, but I am sure that someone will be along with it!

I will try google in the mean time

dd does this.. she is 17months..how can i reason with that???

pootlepod · 06/07/2006 19:44

My dd did this too (hasn't done it for a while recently), she was @28 months, so guess it's a stage thing.

Blooming frustrating but you just have to stop each time and put them back.

SecurMummy · 06/07/2006 19:50

there is this for a start!

AllieBongo · 06/07/2006 19:52

ooooh, that would stop her

SecurMummy · 06/07/2006 19:53

I can't find the other type but will try again later - I have to go and shower my children!

jofeb04 · 06/07/2006 19:54

I might have to try that, thanks SecurMummy

I quite like that as it takes more dexterity than the standard velcro type!

foxinsocks · 06/07/2006 19:54

you need to make them really really tight

TooTicky · 06/07/2006 19:57

My ds2 did this all the way to Sweden - he's such a skinny thing he used to be able to climb right out!

expatinscotland · 06/07/2006 20:08

We use the Lock Tite thingy on DD1 and it works a treat! She's skinny as whippet and able to wiggle out of any straps.

Worth its weight in gold!

A cheap method is to get an old t-shirt, cut out the back so you are just left with the sleeves, the collar and the front, strap the child in, then put the t-shirt on over the top of the straps. We used this with Ds2 (who has special needs) in an ordinary seat belt and high backed booster. After a while we didn't need to use it anymore because he had got used to the feel of the seatbelt and didn't try to wriggle out.

cece · 06/07/2006 20:29

I got a big leather belt and tide the two starps together - he hated it so much he never did it again. the threat of the belt was enough!
