Poo spreading

My delightful ds has developed this habit of putting his hands into his nappy full of poo and then spreading it EERYWHERE! To his delight he then comes to me and says "Ta Da!" as if it's a great piece of artwork or something. The last straw was today when he practically ruined my parents sofa! Anyone out there know how I can stop this happening or what I should do when it does happen?
I try to be very calm but firm and whisk him off to the shower to get clean and then sit him on the step whilst I clean up but he still does it.
BTW....he's 2 and a half (in case you thought he was 16 or something!!)

I don't have any great advice, but I do sympathise. My dd1 had a similar phase at that age. One time she spread poo all over our dining table and chairs.

I did get a bit firm with her - we're not ones for major punishment but I made clear that I was very disappointed, it was yukky and has germs and that I hated cleaning it up. (Normally when she makes a mess with food, paint etc I get her to clean it up but obviously that's not an option with poo!)

We also deprived her of TV after she did it.

One idea is to make sure your ds has lots of access to messy play, play doh, paint etc, and lots of attention generally.

It does pass - we have had 4 months without any incidents now.

Thanks for your advice and sympathy. Since that fateful day he has not done it at all. Perhaps me being quite distressed about it got through to him. He's mentioned a couple of times that poo is yukky. Cross fingers.
