Floppy larynx and delayed walking

Our little girl is 12 months old and has a floppy larynx (laryngomalacia). Because of her throat issues, we were not able to do the whole "tummy time" business, because it caused her difficulty in breathing and upset her greatly. Her neck muscles were also very weak and her head was really floppy until about seven months.

She is now a very smiley, contented, clearly thriving (92nd centile for weight) girl, who is sociable, sits up on her own (If you put her up first), and is babbling away like a trooper. However, she does not roll over, crawl or attempt to walk yet.

We saw a paediatrician this week who was not concerned about her movement issues, and just wants to keep an eye on her in 4 months.

My question is - has anybody else been in a similar position with delayed walking and floppy larynx? I am looking for some re-assurance!

Reflux but was also quite high on the centile. Well hes 4 1/2 yrs old now and is walking talking fine. He grew out of the noise but if he ever has a cold u can hear him sometimes. I can imagine wat ur going through cuz its not that well recognised and u rarely find someone with it. Smile

We have the reflux issue, too! Oddly, it never seems to bother her, and never makes a noise. You just end up soggy.

We get "the look" from people, too. And the comments about how we shouldn't have her outside with her "bad chest". It gives me The Rage. I feel so sorry for parents with physically disabled kids, who must get this all the time.

Ds2 had a floppy larynx. Strangely enough I was posting about his delays on another thread earlier and I had forgotten about that. He walked just before 17 months. He is 16 now and fine.

So the mean walking age so far is 16 months. I am really encouraged by that. Thanks folks!

I don't know anything about floppy larynx, however both my children walked well after 12 months. Ds took two steps at 20 months and could only walk reasonable at about two and half years old because of orthopedic problems and dd (with no health issues) walked at 14 months.

Our child physio told me that if a child can sit by two years old then in her experience they will walk by four years old.

As far as the tummy time business goes NO ONE did tummy time eleven years ago and the majority of secondary school children have no issues with physical development.
