3 yr old suddenly started waking for milk

Hi,
My DS has just turned 3 and has started waking in the night for milk. He has always loved milk and still has at least 2 cups a day, but hadn't had it in the night since he was 1. Typically he'll wake around 1, cry hysterically, drink, then wake another couple of times to go for a wee. He obviously doesn't need the fluid if he's weeing so much so I can only assume it's for the comfort. He's just started a new nursery, been potty trained and gained a baby sister so wondering if it's a reaction to that?
Tbh I would be tempted to give him the milk and wait for him to pass the phase, but DH thinks we should refuse and let him cry. We have a newborn baby who is only waking once in the night and DH is sleeping next door while baby and I co-sleep, so he is finding the broken sleep frustrating. Personally I just want to give in and sleep!
Anyone experienced this? Any tips for breaking the habit?

I personally wouldnt give milk in the night. I would offer a small drink of water only in case he is thirsty.

I wouldn't give the milk. If it fills him up it will stop him eating in the day, two cups in the day time is more than enough, he doesn't need a night feed.

Water if he is thirsty. I think you will get into a very bad habits if you give in and he will expect it every night.

Definitely no milk at night. Stick water in a lidded cup next to his bed and that's enough. Poor kid probably is just looking for a bit of comfort after all the changes bit he will soon adapt.

Thanks - pretty clear message coming through! Will resist tonight and hope the habit breaks soon.

How did it go?

He woke up but asked for water! I told him before bed there'd be no milk so hopefully it was just that easy! Thanks for your replies.

Oo well done. Hope it continues. Then hopefully he won't need to wake you anymore, just have a swig of water and go back to sleep.
