How many naps should a 3.5 month old be having as my baby stays awake all day from 7 till 8 and is impossible to get to nap!! Confused Ending with one grumpy baby!

I think mine had 45 mins at 9am, 2 hours at midday, then other 45 mins about 4/5....
I would put them to bed in a darkened room even though they didn't appear tired. They clearly were as they slept.

At 3.5 months babies usually don't fall asleep by themselves anymore for their naps. They need some help, be it rocking, feeding, going for a walk in a sling/pram, being stroked or patted etc. Try and look for tired cues, yawning, distant gaze, eye rubbing, grumpiness and put down at the first sign. A baby that age will be tired after about 1.5-2 hours awake (although can be sooner as well).

In terms of frequency it depends on how your baby sleeps. DS1 did about 3 long naps a day. DS2 doesn't stay asleep for longer than 45 minutes (1 sleep cycle), so he has 4-5 naps a day. Both totalled about 4-5 hours of daytime sleep at that age.

Good luck, sleep breeds sleep. I find if DS2 sleeps well during the day, he sleeps better during the night too. Also, getting off on a good start with naps means he's just generally more pleasant and will go down more easily for subsequent naps too. Try to avoid letting your baby get overtired as it makes everything 10x harder!

Also at this point in time: DO WHAT WORKS. Ignore anyone who talks about anything involving the words 'rod' and 'back'. Sleep = important. Habits can be broken or nudged in the right direction when the time is right.

Thanks rrreow she has now been awake for 12 hours and is more than overtired she just can't seem to shut off! I would give anything for her to have even an hour and be in a better mood!

Try going for a long walk around the block? Or just go and lay down in a dark room with her and cuddle?

She is currently asleep on her tummy across my knees patting her back! I fear she will wake up if I move her! Hmm
