Ha! But, I have been trying to look it up on Google and can't find anything, and I can't lie I am really impressed by this...
Dd is 8mo and has learnt to clap! Lovely!
But, if you clap twice she claps twice, then stops and looks at you expectantly, you clap 4 times, she claps 4 times, you clap once she claps once and so on.
So, should I ring MENSA in the morning?... Grin

Sorry but I think this sort of imitation is not unusual! It's so lovely when they start interacting like that though, I was so excited when I realise dd could clap and wave on demand in response to the word rather than imitating the action. Mensa level stuff imo but probably not in anyone else's!

notanyanymore · 22/10/2013 23:12

Lol I know, she's my last baby so I think I'm paying even more attention to the things she's doing then I did with my first as its my last chance to experience it all IFYSWIM.
And at the same time I feel bad as I went running to find DP to tell him 'bloomin heck come see this DD3 is only the new Einstein she copies the number of claps you do!!!' To which he said 'yea I know, I did tell you last week but you were too busy on mumsnet...' Blush

That's a smart baby in my more-limited-than-yours experience. It's the counting that is impressing me. Mensa might steal her though? They do come across as a little bit ... mysterious. Just saying.

notanyanymore · 22/10/2013 23:31

Ah thanks sparkly Grin it was getting the amount of claps right that impressed me too.
(I'm with you on MENSA, somehow in my head they're in the same arena as the Stone Masons... shudder )

how many can she go up to? Say if you clapped 8 or 9 times could she repeat that?

TheCountessOlenska · 23/10/2013 16:58

I'm gonna call genius Grin I remember Ddi clapped at 8 months but the counting is impressive!

notanyanymore · 23/10/2013 17:07

i'm not sure how far she can go, i'll try it again tonight and see!

Genius, no question.

Alexa007 · 26/10/2013 12:33

My 7mo dd does the same counting imitation but with tapping not clapping! It's a great party trick. She will also wave on demand!
We have very smart babies Grin

NotintheMiddle · 26/10/2013 12:39

Genius Grin

TheBakeryQueen · 26/10/2013 18:43

Welli think copying the number of claps is impressive Smile

Boomerwang · 26/10/2013 22:39

at 8 months I'd say it was very impressive!

AnyCluffyflumpFucker · 26/10/2013 22:40

That is clever!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 26/10/2013 22:41

MY DD did this at five months. Walking at 7 months, reading at 18 months. Received her first from Oxford aged 14 this summer.

CatAmongThePigeons · 26/10/2013 22:41

Very impressive. Grin

Ninunina · 27/10/2013 04:59

Lol! I'll say genius since it would make my DD a super genius since she was clapping at 4 months and imitating my claps by 6 months Grin
Either that or its a sign of a very coordinated baby. My little one is 2 next month and reached all her milestones very early. She certainly impresses people including her pediatrician and teachers with her intelligence so even if they are not geniuses, they probably are of above average intelligence.

sanam2010 · 28/10/2013 17:58

DD2 clapped and sat at 5 months (though not matching numbers!) and started walking at 7 1/2 months. She is trying somewhat successfully to eat with a spoon at 9 months now. Yours sounds impressive but maybe hold off with the phone call a few more months ;-).

Enjoy and keep watching for signs of genius :-). In my experience all children have far more learning potential than parents usually expect, once you really watch them and follow their lead you will be surprised by what they understand already.
