Tiny feet on a toddler

DD is 17 months and has tiny, tiny feet - 2.5 G according to an independent shoe shop, and they commented on how little her feet were. She's in 12-18 month clothes and is generally on the small size but is on a far higher percentile for height than weight.

I feel daft even for asking this but is it something to be concerned about other than being an inconvenience when trying to get her some wellies? I have tiny feet too but I am and have always been very short Grin and DH has short feet but ridiculously wide.

Everyone commented on her enormous clodhoppers when she was born - it's like they stopped growing while everything else caught up!

Don't think so, my DC was a 2 at 17 months and wore pre walking shoes until they were almost 2. They arefine, they just have small feet.

All my kids have small feet for their age and each started with shoe size 2 which was annoying because many shoes don't start until size 4.

Also Clarks and Start rite measure slightly differently so maybe she would fit a size three in Clarks? Wellies are hard to get that small but you can always buy a size four and put thick socks on!

My eldest DS was the same - a 2.5 at 18 months. He's now 19, a shade under 6' tall with size 8 or 9 feet. Apart from having to wait for shoes it's never been a problem.

My DD is 26 months and we had that issue with her, even though she is big and everyone comments on that! I think they are starting to catch up though. Fortunately she didn't walk THAT well for a while, only started at 17 months-ish and is not really the adventurous type either, so we got away with the welly issue until we could fit her into size 4s with thick socks.

All my daughters have had teeny tiny feet and were in padders/ bobux/ pre-walking shoes until nearly 2. DD1 now has adult size 6 feet, DD2 is an adult size 5 and DD3 (who's 4) still has dinky ones (infant 6/7).

Dd is almost 4 and just edged into a size 6. She started walking at 10 months and didn't get shoes until she grew to a size 2 at 15 months. She's not really any smaller than other children here age and she has a friend her age and size with enormous feet, a 9. It's just that there is a huge range of sizes and some children will have big feet, some will have small and some will have average. I have size 5/6 feet and dh has 9/10 so normal sized, dd just has little feet.

I found size 3 wellies in Next. The only problem now is that school socks are too big, I haven't been able to find ones smaller than a 6, and school shoes come with buckles rather than Velcro.

Jojo Maman Bebe do tiny wellies as well! In fact they were DD3's first outdoor shoes as it was winter.

CreatureRetorts · 24/10/2013 08:39

Try online for European shoes as usually smaller. Even next size 3 were far too big for DD's size 3.5 feet!

My daughter's first shoes were a 3c bought in Canada. She didn't walk until she was 18mths.

She's 6 now and a 11e.
