8 week old - lost the ability to sleep?!

8 week old ds had jaundice from birth and so was very sleepy in the beginning. However, he has gradually had more wakeful times in the day but has always slept at night really well (although usually falling asleep on the breast but sleep is soooooo important right now!)

The last couple of nights he hasnt slept hardly at all and has been desperate for a sleep in the day but hasnt slept then either. At night, he falls asleep but then less than a minute later he's fidgeting and groaning (with his eyes closed) and then wakes up with a start - arms and legs outstretched. Its really not like him and i know he's only 8 wks old but he has ALWAYS been a good sleeper at night.

He seems to be permenantly feeding for short periods - do you think this could be a growth spurt? What about the groaning and fidgeting?

Any advice?

Have you tried swaddling? It sounds like maybe now that he's got more movement he's waking himself up flailing about.

tried that but always manages to break free!

My fail-proof routine was to go to bed with him, feed him and then transfer him to cot when asleep. But hes just not staying alseep!

Pretty sure my ds had this (although up until 2 yrs he was pretty much like this ALL THE TIME - but worse at some times) and it was always a growth spurt. Especially with the increased feeding. Think the next one is at about 12 weeks. Keep feeding and just know that this too will pass.
