6Month old being sick on bottles

Recently my son seems to be really sick on his formula.

He will only take 2 bottles a day, and the rest of the day he's on water or really diluted juice and plenty of food and healthy snacks. I've noticed he is only sick when he has formula.
I was told by a close friend to give him cows milk, so I did this today and for his afternoon bottle so he will sleep and he wasnt sick at all. He also slept a lot better too.

Could this be a sign I need to switch him from formula to cows milk? I know he should be on formula until he's 1. It might be useful to know that he's been on baby rice since he was 2 months as he was always wanting more, and he will eat anything I put in front on him

Keep him on formula. The advice is there for a reason. Cows milk does not contain the correct nutrients for babies under 1, it's lacking in some areas and has too much of others. Formula is designed to contain the correct balance. You might want to tell your close friend that as well. The NHS advice on it is here.

What did your Paed/GP/HV say about weaning at 2 months - you followed their advice? Weaning before 17 weeks is an unusual step to take - are there other health problems that affect your baby? Being on lots of food and snacks at 6 months is also a bit unusual - some babies are only eating 1 meal a day at this age.

From what you have said, my reaction would be to reduce the amount of food you are giving him daily, and up the formula. Give his digestive system a chance to calm down a bit.

The weaning at 2 months was on the advice of a doctor because she thought he was having too much milk as he wanted 9ounces every 2-3 hours, and the friend who advised the milk has some medical training and also has 4 very healthy children.

I have tried giving him more formula and less food and he is simply not interested in it anymore. He will just cry and cry until he gets food. The only time he really wants formula is when he wants to sleep.

I think I shall have to try and see a doctor as I have just gave him formula again and he was very sick again - enough to have to change him and his bedding. It's worrying as I know he should be having formula but he just doesn't want it and its not agreeing with him anymore.

I would agree that a trip to the GP would be a good idea as it sounds like there is something more going on here. Explain it all as you have done here and perhaps they will be able to advise you or refer you to a paediatrician.

It did occur to me that you could try giving him less formula but more frequently so the total amount is the same? Maybe that might help with the vomiting.

I am pretty shocked any doctor would advise baby rice at 8 weeks. Are you in the UK?

Cows milk isn't recommended before a year for various reasons. I would speak to your HV or GP.

Yeah I'm in the UK. The doctor said giving him that much milk at such a young age was not good for him so to give him a baby spoon of baby rice and to slowly build it up, after a couple of weeks. Which worked as it really settled him. She is also the one who told me to introduce all the different foods earlier, but just do it slowly. Unfortunately this Doctor has now left the practice.

I know it only a small amount is recommended at this age as a taster (as per HV advise) but it is worrying as it is ONLY the formula he is sick on. He keeps everything else down and is his normal self on it.

Anyway I'm seeing a doctor later on.
