I would absolutely love to read books to my DD, but I can't, as I she won't let me! every time I get a book out she 'attacks' it...I've tried distracting her with toys and other books so I can read to her bug as soon as she sees I'm holding a book she proper lunges for it!!

any ideas/advice/experience with this and how I can get her to calm down around books so we can have story time??

I'm desperate to snuggle up with her and read her stories Smile

thanks fellow mumsnetters Smile

She's a baby, I think you will just have to wait Grin Maybe sing to her instead.

You just need to be patient.

I thought maybe I'd done/doing something wrong as I thought babies loved stories and being read to......

They love to eat and rip and play with books when they're 7 months old.

Listening to you read comes later.

DS1 loved stories and sat still from tiny.

DS2 didn't.

If it's not working, then don't do it!

DS is now 18m and loves books, looks at them for ages on his own and loves being read to. We started reading to him whilst he had his bedtime feed (first breast and then bottle) so he was snuggled up on me whilst DH read to him or vice versa and went from there Smile

What kind of stories? Her grabbing will be her trying to touch it etc. I remember trying to read to ds and dd was a baby - she would grab etc. in fact she did better with short picture books. It's only when she got older would she sit through a more wordy book.

DeathMetalMum · 06/10/2013 09:04

Dd would only sit down and be read to once she could move around by herself. Before that we just did picture books with textures in so she could touch them.

Could you just make up a story? DD is 8 months and loves to eat/grab/rip books. I either make up a story or sing nursery rhymes during her bedtime feed Smile

shellsocks · 06/10/2013 10:33

Yeah, we still have two lots of books now...ones he plays with that are hard back with flaps etc. and wordy story time ones that he sits and listens to Smile
