Tlismi Moti Teething Pendant.

Dd has started teething and we have been given one of these teething pendants by an Indian collegue of my husband. I'd like to try it but I can only find that it is made of 5 metals. I want to kow which ones especially as I have read that they might contain mercury.
The bead is to be worn around the neck so it is in contact with the skin, like with Amber teething necklaces.
Has anyone used a Tlismi Moti? Does anyone know what it is made of? I want to be sure it is harmless before trying it.

The more relevant point is that these types of necklaces will do absolutely nothing to relieve your baby's pain. To make matters worse they are also a strangulation and choking hazard (see the RoSPA website for information about safety and teething necklaces). Why would you want to take the risk of putting a necklace on your baby (especially all day and night as suggested for tlismi moti necklaces) when it is simply decorative?

To relieve teething pain effectively use a painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen, as well as a teething gel that contains lidocaine such as Dentinox. Some people rate Anbesol as a good teething gel. A cold flannel or other teething toy can also help.

Thanks for your reply. I first want to find out what it is made of and then finding a safe way to use it would be step 2 for me.

Teething can be a long process and I don't want to give paracetamol or other painkillers to my child unless necessary (sorry am a bit of a lentil weaver). There is also not a lot of proof that homeopathy can work, but I have experienced it myself so that's all the proof that I need.

I would suggest contacting one of the websites that sell these necklaces and ask them what the metals are. I would also ask them what safety features have been included to reduce the strangulation risk.

Fwiw, I might also fall under the heading of "lentil weaver", but this doesn't clash for me with the understanding that homeopathy and similar things like the tlismi moti necklace do not work. There is no evidence that they work at all. Any claims that they work come from the placebo effect or coincidence, sorry.
