Does your 3-year-old do this??

DD1 was three last week.

We were on holiday and she was all wound up.

She was sleeping poorly - going down at 8 PM, but waking up to chat, get out of bed, ask for a drink, etc.

At times, I could hear her chatting to her toys from about 1-4 or 5AM!

This week, however, she seems to have hit a wall.

She insisted on going to bed at 7 last night - even brought me her grobag and toothbrush! - and woke about 7.30 this morning.

slept like a log the past two nights.

DH said she'd asked to go in her buggy yesterday on their walk and fell asleep (she hasn't had daytime naps for about 4 months)!

I was a bit worried b/c her last molars are pushing up and she's been ragged w/that the past couple of days, but she seems alright - no fever, runs, chills.

Is this normal three-year-old stuff? Heading into unchartered waters here . . .

Sounds like she knows when she's tired and is catching up on the holiday week.

my dd takes herself to bed pretty much every afternoon and evening, collects her blanket and announces she is tired and goijng to bed, can we brush her teeth etc.. she likes to sleep
I always know dd is coming down with something if she lays on the floor and makes like she wants to sleep...

Agree she is catching up. Have been having similar disturbed patterns with DD but she is only 2.1 but at least I know that I can discount teeth - she has all 20.

I found that for some time after DS gave up his naps it would all eventually catch up with him. Even now at 5 he has a very occasional daytime nap at our assistance or falls asleep in the car.

She seems a bit better today.

Poor bug!

I'd been forgetting to put her vitamins in her juice as well.

She was telling us her mouth hurt and asking for Nurofen. Last night's tea was awful! I'd made her some homemade chips and she was sooo hungry, but the Nurofen hadn't kicked in and it hurt to chew so she cried and cried.

Think I might give her a dose when I get in the door so she'll be able to enjoy her chili and rice tonight.

i'm not the voice of experience here, but yesterday DS took off clothes at nursery. Put on pull up nappy and got into bed. He's 3 in Sept! My friend at work (who's son is 4 now) started doing similiar too at about that age. If she's not ill IYO, I'd count your blessings! They must(she thinks hopefully!) get to an age when they realise that they are tired and need sleep! Also sounds like she didn't sleep a lot last week! Some catching up to do?

Obviously keep an eye, but you know if anything is out of the ordinary(what ever ordinary is!)

i think once she starts nursery in August she may want a wee nap again, especially b/c on Tuesdays and Thursdays she'll also have morning activities and then nursery in the afternoon.

DH stays home w/her and DD2 during the day. His sister warned him to have a snack and the blanket and pillow to hand when she gets home from nursery - her two boys were knackered from all the stimulation until they got a bit more used to it.

Dd is just like this right now and 3 in August, expat. She has suddenly started seeming to need a longer night-time sleep. And, from formerly needing to be poleaxed before she would consent to go near her bed, she too is tipping up with her rabbit and a pull-up at 7pm.
